Weak HST: bending for more stable plants

Weak HST: bending for more stable plants – GrowPilot.guide

Learn how to grow stronger and more stable cannabis plants by gently bending the shoots without damaging the tissue.

## Introduction

Gentle nipping, also known as **nipping technique**, is a subtle form of High Stress Training (HST) that aims to improve the stability and robustness of the cannabis plant. This technique helps to strengthen the structure of the plant by thickening the cell walls of the shoots and optimizing nutrient uptake.

## Preparation

Before you start pinching, make sure your plant is healthy and in the vegetative phase. The technique should not be applied during the flowering phase, as this can lead to unwanted stress and a possible reduction in yield.

### Equipment

- **Clean hands** or **disposable gloves**

- **Soft material** to protect the shoots (e.g. foam or cloth)

## Step-by-step instructions

### 1. select shoot

Choose a strong shoot in the middle or upper part of the plant. Avoid shoots that are too young or too old, as they could be either too sensitive or too hard.

### 2. Prepare the bending

Hold the selected shoot between your thumb and index finger. To avoid bruising, you can wrap a piece of soft material around the shoot.

### 3. perform a gentle bend

Begin to bend the shoot carefully until you feel a slight resistance. The cell walls should break easily without damaging the outer layer. You will hear a slight cracking sound. This is normal and indicates that the technique has been carried out correctly.

### 4. monitor the recovery phase

Allow the plant to recover. The bent area will regenerate within a few days and form a thickened, more stable node. In the following days, monitor the plant for signs of stress such as drooping leaves or discoloration and make sure it receives sufficient light and nutrients.

## Advantages of the pinching technique

- Stronger shoots**: The plant develops more robust stems that can better support the weight of the flowers.

- **Improved nutrient uptake**: By thickening the shoots, the plant can transport nutrients more efficiently.

- Reduced susceptibility to pests**: The thicker cell walls provide natural protection against some pests.

## Tips

1 **Do not pinch too hard**: Start with light pressure to avoid stressing the plant too much.

2 **Avoid the flowering phase**: Only apply the technique in the vegetative phase so as not to jeopardize the yield.

3 **Regular control**: Monitor the plant regularly after pinching to ensure it is recovering well.

4 **Patience is important**: Give the plant time to adapt and take advantage of the technique.

5 **Avoid excessive stress**: Do not combine this technique with other HST methods at the same time to avoid excessive stress.
