Harvesting at the optimum time determines potency, flavour and effect. Learn to read the trichomes correctly.
Harvesting cannabis at the right time is crucial for maximum potency and quality:
**Trichome examination (most important indicator)**
- Clear trichomes: THC not yet fully developed, too early
- Milky/cloudy trichomes: peak THC content, ideal time
- Amber-coloured trichomes: THC converts to CBN, relaxing effect
**Other indicators:**
- Pistils: 70-90% brown/orange in colour
- Leaves: Fan leaves turn yellow (natural process)
- Odour: Intense, fully ripe fragrance
- Flowers: Firm and resinous, no longer growing
**Harvesting tools:**
- Clean, sharp secateurs
- Latex gloves against resin fingers
- Trimming bowls or nets
- Microscope or magnifying glass (60x magnification)
**Harvesting process:**
1. 48h before harvest: stop water and light
2. Cut off main stems at the base
3. Remove large fan leaves
4. Divide branches into manageable pieces
5. Hang up to dry immediately
**Timing tips:**
- Harvest in the morning (highest terpene concentration)
- For autoflowers: 8-12 weeks after germination
- For photoperiodic: 6-10 weeks after the start of flowering
